Things are starting to heat up in the shop: Summer is here, welding and fabrication projects abound, and I just pulled the trigger on my very own plasma table.
Don’t get me wrong, I love SendCutSend, and will still be using them for really detailed and thick material. This new machine in my shop will be perfect for forge blanks and shop projects in the 0.125″-0.250″ range – I will be cutting them myself! Really excited about the possibilities!
I went with the Langmuir CrossFire PRO with SOME of the bells and whistles: I ordered the THC and the laptop stand. I did not get the packaged plasma cutter though. The math says that my Lincoln Tomahawk plasma torch should be more than enough, but I may need to replace my torch head with a vertical model – we will see.
I am all in for a little over $3k with freight charges and my first planned/booked job should pay for it. shipping is a little nuts as it has 2+ month lead time, but I can wait.
Yes, this is an “entry level” machine and yes, it is not meant for “serious” production work. My answer to why I bought this one is simple: It is an entry level machine and I am an entry level operator, I don’t do full blown production, and it is the perfect size for my tiny shop. It will be a fantastic machine to learn on, tweak, and if it leads me down a path of higher use/greater need, then I will use the profit from the Langmuir to buy a larger one.
